Last weekend I had the pleasure of traveling to South Dakota for the Rausch family’s cattle sale. My dad and I had quite the trip up, making it to Pierre Saturday night. The next day we went up to Rausch’s in Hoven and were able to look through their cattle as they prepped for sale day.
Myself with two of the founders Vern and Harlan. They are two very funny guys! Which might be why I'm laughing in this picture! |
They were sweet enough to invite us for lunch so we got to spend sometime getting know each other better, outside of cattle. Their family is definitely some of the nicest people I have ever met! I always love extending my Hereford family!

While the weather was beautiful all day Sunday, the snow came in Monday morning. It snowed most of the morning and Dad and I were certainly glad we’d gotten to see the cattle the day before.
The Rauschs put on a fantastic sale but unfortunately as the snow came down, the roads grew a bit more dangerous than Dad and I were really comfortable with. We had to leave a bit early so we might get home.
Driving through Nebraska became more than a little ugly as the snow thickened. We thought more than once about just staying the night to ride out the storm. Of course, the only time I forgot to pack extra clothes!
Thankfully, just past Holdredge the weather lightened up. We got home late but at least we got home!
I want to say a huge thank you to the Rausch family for having me this weekend and to Miss Vicki for approving my trip to South Dakota! You can visit their family's website at rauschherefords.com!
